Public transport by buses from Quito to Hoja Blanca is possible, but difficult. Access by car usually requires 4WD vehicles, as roads are very rough, but you must have a permit signed by Fundación de Conservación Jocotoco of Quito to pass the barge to cross the river in Puerto Nuevo.
